About me

I am a Full Professor of Computer Science at the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia. My fields of expertise are in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning and signal processing, mainly applied to healthcare and computer-aided diagnostic system. From March 2022 to December 2024 I was with the Dpt. of Signals, Systems and Radiocommunications at the ETSIT-Universidad Politécnica de Madrid as a Visiting Researcher supported by a María Zambrano grant funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.

Brief biography

I was born in Manizales, Colombia. I received the B.S. degree in Electronic engineering and MEng. degree in Engineering - Industrial Automation from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Manizales, Colombia, in 2005 and 2007 respectively. In 2010 I completed a dual PhD degree in Computer Science and Automatics from both the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. I also received the European Doctorate Mention from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. From 2010 to 2011 I was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Biomedical Engineering, Universidad Antonio Nariño, Bogotá, Colombia. Since 2012 I am part of the Dpt. of Systems Engineering, Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia; in December 2020 I was appointed as a Full Professor. From March 2022 to December 2024, I joined the Dpt. of Signals, Systems and Radiocommunications at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain as a Visiting Researcher under a María Zambrano grant. I am Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and member of the ELLIS network.
